Being a ball-playing centre-half, Leacock has been compared to Rio Ferdinand, but he has a long way to go just yet if he is to emulate the England star.
He started his career at Fulham, making his Premier League debut in 2003 before enjoying two loan spells at Coventry City as he struggled to break into the Cottagers’ side, despite representing England U19s (born in Thornton Heath, he is of Barbadian descent). Having looked set for a permanent switch to Swansea City, he instead joined the Rams for £375,000 in August 2006 and, after a shaky start, his calm performances helped the club into the Premier League.
