A pass-and-move graduate of the Anfield school, he has settled in well at international level but needs a new club to call home
A former Liverpool schoolboy captain, Potter is a tidy and accomplished central midfielder with a good range of passing.
He made his Reds debut in a Champions League qualifier against Grazer AK in August 2004 and went on to make 10 appearances that season. But further opportunities were hard to come by and after a spell at Southampton, he started the 2006-07 season on loan at Molineux; he made such a big impression that in January 2007 Mick McCarthy paid £250,000 to make the move permanent, handing Potter a contract until summer 2010.
Despite being born in Liverpool Potter has made his way up through the Republic of Ireland ranks and made his full debut against Ecuador in May 2007, staying in the squad since. However, at club level things haven't been quite so dandy: when Wolves again failed to attain promotion, his was one of several names McCarthy put on the transfer list in an attempt to freshen things up.
