Crop-headed goal-scoring midfielder looks to continue his net-finding ways in Lancashire after opting to stay in the third tier
Only four of the Port Vale players relegated to League Two in summer 2008 were offered new deals; Dan Whitaker was one of them. The shaven-headed Mancunian played close to a century of games for Vale but decided a drop into the basement wasn't what his career needed and, despite several offers from the Valiants, switched to Oldham on a two-year contract, becoming John Sheridan's fifth summer signing.
Before his two seasons in the Potteries Whitaker began his career at Macclesfield, spending five seasons at Moss Rose and clocking up almost 200 appearances for the Silkmen. Whitaker was a regular goalscorer from midfield during his time with Vale – a trait that Sheridan will hope he continues in Lancashire.
