North-West lad, ended up making a name for himself at London clubs. Now back home, looking to become a regular at Turf Moor
A former Blackpool trainee, Carlisle emerged during his days at QPR as a no-nonsense, combative and powerful centre-half.
A danger at set-pieces, his performances earned him a free transfer move to Leeds United in 2004 and a solid season brought him to the attentions of Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd, who snapped him up and made him a regular in the club’s ill-fated season of Premier League football.
A thigh injury restricted him to just a few appearances that season and he was sold to Clarets for £200,000 in August 2007. In his first season at the club, he was best remembered for a spectacular injury-time overhead kick which salvaged a point at Bristol City.
