Riggott spent most of 2007-08 on loan at Stoke and was instrumental in the Potters’ promotion to the Premier League.
The tall centre-back came through the ranks at Derby and arrived at The Riverside on transfer deadline day in 2003, making an immediate impression on Teeside and impressing alongside the experienced Southgate and Ugo Ehiogu.
His career has been hampered by a knee injury that forced him to miss the majority of the 2005-06 season but, after returning from Stoke, Riggott forced his way back into Southgate’s plans and scored on the club’s final day goal riot against Manchester City in May 2008.
