Cross-border raider continues his cold-eyed goal-bagging and will now take it into Europe
Poached for nowt from Oldham Athletic in June 2007 by exploiting a loophole in FIFA’s “cross border” rule regarding players under 24, Porter has proved Mark McGhee’s most significant and astute signing.
A prolific scorer for both Bury and Oldham, the tall target man has continued his fine strike rate in Scotland. Filling Scott McDonald’s shoes was a tall order, but with 18 goals in his first season Porter has shown himself more than equal to the task and will relish the chance to show what he can do in Europe. He’s not a hot-streak striker, but instead brings a ruthlessly reliable source of goals to the team.
