Defender

Gunter impressed massively in his rare appearances for Spurs in 2007/08. His versatility could prove useful for Spurs

Like compatriot and fellow Spurs defender Gareth Bale, success came early for Gunter.

The Newport-born full-back, who can play both on the left and the right side of defence, made his debut for Cardiff in August 2006 against Barnet, having just turned 17.

A string of mature performances for the Bluebirds led to his senior international call-up a year later and, in making his debut, he became the youngest ever Cardiff player to represent Wales.

This precocity alerted a number of Premier League clubs, including Everton, who had a bid for the defender turned down, before Tottenham secured his services for £3m in January 2008.

Brimming with potential - so much so he's showing a good amount of it already. The poor lad has already been tasked with going up against Cristiano Ronaldo twice, and has by no means embarrassed himself either time. With simply more playing minutes he could unearth himself as a real gem.

I agree Cardiff were robbed, should have held on for longer and 1.5m was it if not lower Tottenham have got a bargain on their hands.

Potentially superb full-back. Already very defensively solid and not averse to venturing forward either. Good at the moment, but hopefully there is much more to come. I have a sneaking suspicion that he may in time overtake Gareth Bale as the Welsh Full-Back at Spurs that everyone has an envious eye on.

A good, solid defender. Not much to offer in attack, but he's like a more stylish, less aggressive Alan Hutton. They both concentrate on their defending, instead of their attacking.

A reliable footballer who will in a few years time be a regular in the Premier League.
