With an impressive record in England and with the Norwegian side, Wright returned to Lincoln for the second time, making an immediate impression
Since winning the Lincolnshire Schools County Cup with Deepings School, Wright has taken his time arriving back in the county to play for the Imps after a career that has been played out mostly in Scandinavia. Commanding a £30,000 fee from Bristol City as a youngster at Kettering in 1999, Wright failed to make an impression at Ashton Gate and eventually followed former manager Benny Lennartsson to Norwegian side Viking Stavanger.
There he bagged his claim to fame by netting a last-minute goal at Stamford Bridge in the 2002/03 UEFA Cup to help knock out Claudio Ranieri’s Chelsea with Viking winning the return leg 4-2. Spells at IK Start and Moss FK preceded his move to Sincil Bank, where Wright ended his first season as top scorer with 15 goals in 2007/08, using his height and goal-poaching instinct to good effect.
