Clark, along with Michael Nelson, make one of the most dominant central defensive partnerships outside the top flight.
Tipped by Mick McCarthy to enjoy a long and illustrious career with Sunderland after coming through the club’s youth ranks Clark was disappointed to make just eight appearances for the Black Cats between 2000 and 2004. The former England Under-19’s captain was allowed to leave the Stadium of Light during the 2004/05 campaign, joining Hartlepool on a free transfer. Assured on the ball, and excellent in the air Clark has emerged as a quality addition for the Pools forging a strong partnership with Michael Nelson in the centre of defence. The defender is also capable of playing a key role for the side in midfield.
