While Mido may have made all the headlines, Zaki is Egypt's real star striker, scoring regularly since making his debut in 2004
Amr Zaki started his career at Al-Mansoura in his homeland, before moving on to ENPPI in 2003.
The 6ft 1 Egyptian was top scorer in the Egyptian league in 2004/05 as his team clinched the Egyptian cup and second place in the championship, their best ever season.
This form combined with a good showing at the 2006 African Cup of Nations prompted Lokomotiv Moscow to bring the striker to Russia for a fee believed to be around £1 million. However the move didn’t work in Zaki’s favour, as he failed to make a first team appearance during his time in Moscow.
This prompted a swift return to Egypt just months later, this time with El Zamalek. He picked up where he had left off with ENPPI, scoring 22 goals in 54 appearances in a two year spell before moving to the Premier League with Wigan in the summer of 2008.
He netted on his debut as the Latics went down 2-1 at West Ham.
