Attack minded defender, uses intelligence to stop opposition attacks rather than brute force. Useful for starting counter attacks
Versatile enough to play at right-back, in a holding midfield role or in his preferred spot in the centre of defence, El-Abd has developed into a key man for Brighton & Hove Albion since making his first team debut in 2003/04.
Standing at 5ft 10” El-Abd is not a huge physical presence but more than makes up for his lack of height with his tenacity and reading of the game.
The half-Egyptian defender is also more than comfortable in possession of the ball where he is often seen starting attacks from defensive positions. After signing a new two year deal in the summer of 2008 El-Abd looks certain to play a major part in the Seagulls’ future.
