Boys started out with his home-town club Hartlepool United in 1999 and netted an impressive 53 goals in 144 appearances for the club.
Not the most mobile of strikers, Boyd does, however, possess good close control and is deadly in and around the 18-yard box.
In season 2004-05 he netted an impressive 29 goals in League One only to suffer a long-term injury.
This did not put off Championship Luton Town and he moved to the Kenilworth Road club for £500,000 in the summer of 2006 – but he scored just twice in 23 games.
He moved to Orient on a free transfer in the summer of 2007, netting 17 times in his first season.
